General
"Snoring U" (SU) is an application for the iPhone and iPad that attempts to help people who suffer from snoring.
SU Ver. 2.2 for iPhone, Ipod Touch and iPad is now selling in the Apple iTunes App Store
SU does not claim to be, nor intends to be, a medical or clinical application. It endeavors to help people with sleeping disorders using a radically different approach compared to other methods.
The inventor of SU would start snoring at night when he went to sleep lying on his back. His wife would be woken up by his snoring and whisper to him, "Turn over and lie on your side!" He would do so and his snoring would promptly stop. He wouldn't remember this incident the following morning. One day his wife remarked that as his cell phone was already so smart, surely it could identify snoring and be programmed to instruct him to "turn over and lie on your side"? Hopefully, this action could be undertaken before she was woken up. This is how "Snoring U" came into being.
Basically, "Snoring U" attempts to assist the user by performing a "nudge" which is triggered by a set of complex rules that are applied to the noise level, noise pattern and desired user behavior. In addition, it may be used for monitoring purposes allowing you to view how loud and how often you snored during your sleep.

General Instructions
You need to place the iPhone or iPad as close as possible to your
mouth, the noise source. The device can be placed on your bedside table or
nightstand. If it's an iPhone you may consider placing it under your pillow or attached to an armband if you wish to use the vibration feature.
Should you be worried about cellular radiation, the device could be switched to
"Airplane Mode"
before you go to sleep.
If after using the application for a few nights and you do not feel that it resolves the problem, or if it bothers your spouse, you can try tweaking some of the settings and/or playing with the sound level and/or placing the iPhone/iPad in a different place.
"Snoring U" works even after the screen locks and the device goes into "sleep". It's actually designed to do that because it saves on the battery. We recommend that you connect your device to a charger but you don't normally have to. Depending on other factors, we estimate that an iPhone (3GS) running SU would drain between 20% to 40% of the battery over a period of 8 hours.
The Main Screen
The main screen shows
as the "Monitor" tab. While you are in this tab, "Snoring U" is constantly
monitoring the noise. Before going to sleep, make sure that you press the
green "Start" button. Only then will SU actually start.
At any time during the night, you may stop SU from performing its "action" by pressing the "Stop" button. You would then need to re-enable it by pressing the "Continue" button.
While SU is stopped, you may visit the "History" , "Settings", or "Help" screen by selecting the appropriate tab. If you do that you will need to get back to the main screen by selecting the "Monitor" tab in order to "Continue".
The History window displays a list of
all the sessions that you have saved when using SU. By default each session is automatically
saved and appended to the end of this list.
You may delete items from the list by selecting the
"Edit" button and then pressing the
button which is to the left of the date of the session.
You will then need to confirm the deletion by clicking the "Delete" button.
You may get a full summary and see a graph of the session by selecting the
button which is to the right of the
date of the session. This will take you to the "Summary" window.
The Summary window display various statistics relating to your sleep session. The "See Graph" button will take your to the graph where you can see exactly how noisy your sleep session had been.

You can see above that during the sleep session, there were periods that were quite noisy and periods that appear to be quiet. The red horizontal line marks the noise threshold that you have selected. The blue graph depicts the noise level during the sleep session and the colored pushpins depict various "events". A graph showing the whole sleep session may be too crowded: You therefore probably want to zoom into the interesting areas. You do this by using the "+" and "-" icons, pinching and dragging your fingers until you zoom on the desired period. The app is capable of zooming up to a level of about 1 minute:

It is advisable that you
familiarize yourself with the different settings of this program. The options
are factory-preset to some regular defaults but you may want to practice with
them in order to achieve better results.
All settings that you change are being remembered indefinitely by the iPhone/iPad.
Sensitivity: This determines how
sensitive the iPhone/iPad is to the ambient noise. To modify the sensitivity, you need to
to select the arrow
button which is to the right of the
current sensitivity level. This will take you to another window where you will be
able to modify the sensitvity and experiment with it.
To increase the sensitivity,
drag the bar all the way to the left. To make it respond only to the loudest
snoring, drag it all the way to the right.
Play Tone: The iPhone/iPad plays a pre-selected recording.
Select Sound: This displays the name of the sound clip that would be displayed when SU nugdes you. Pressing the "Change" button will take you to the "Pick a Wake Up Sound" screen.
Volume: This sets the volume of the played sound clip. If you selected "Play Tone" then you probably want to experiment with the volume to make sure that it is not too loud or too soft.
Vibrate (iPhone only): The iPhone vibrates for few seconds.
Max Retries This sets the maximum on the number of nudges that "Snoring U" can make through one session. This option is any number between 1 and 100. The factory default is 10.
This screen enables the user to manage a small list of sound clips. The selected sound clip is what is required to be played upon "action" (if this option is turned on). To choose a suitable sound clip, simply highlight a line in the scrollable list. The "Edit" buttons allows you to record new sound clips or to delete clips you created before.
To delete a sound clip, select "Edit" and then click the
button next
to the clip you wish to delete. You will then need to confirm the deletion by
clicking the "Delete" button.
To create new sound clips press the "Add new sound" button, SU will take you to the "New Sound" screen where you will be able to record new sound clips.
