General

"Snoring U" (SU) is an application for the iPhone and iPad that attempts to help people who suffer from snoring.

SU does not claim to be, nor intends to be, a medical or clinical application. It endeavors to help people with sleeping disorders using a radically different approach compared to other methods.

The inventor of SU would start snoring at night when he went to sleep lying on his back. His wife would be woken up by his snoring and whisper to him, "Turn over and lie on your side!" He would do so and his snoring would promptly stop. He wouldn't remember this incident the following morning. One day his wife remarked that as his cell phone was already so smart, surely it could identify snoring and be programmed to instruct him to "turn over and lie on your side"? Hopefully, this action could be undertaken before she was woken up. This is how "Snoring U" came into being.

Basically, "Snoring U" attempts to assist the user by performing an "nudge" which is triggered by a set of complex rules that are applied to the noise level, noise pattern and desired user behavior. In addition, it may be used for monitoring purposes allowing you to view how loud and how often you snored during your sleep.

General Instructions

You need to place the iPhone or iPad as close as possible to your mouth, the noise source. The device can be placed on your bedside table or nightstand. If it's an iPhone you may consider placing it under your pillow or attached to an armband if you wish to use the vibration feature. Should you be worried about cellular radiation, the device could be switched to "Airplane Mode" before you go to sleep.

If after using the application for a few nights and you do not feel that it resolves the problem, or if it bothers your spouse, you can try tweaking some of the settings and/or playing with the sound level and/or placing the iPhone/iPad in a different place.

"Snoring U" works even after the screen locks and the device goes into "sleep". It's actually designed to do that because it saves on the battery. We recommend that you connect your device to a charger but you don't normally have to. Depending on other factors, we estimate that an iPhone running SU would drain between 20% to 40% of the battery over a period of 8 hours.

The Main Screen

monitor_tab.PNG The main screen shows as the "Monitor" tab. While you are in this tab, "Snoring U" is constantly monitoring the noise. Before going to sleep, make sure that you press the green "Start" button. Only then will SU actually start.

At any time during the night, you may stop SU from performing its "action" by pressing the "Stop" button. You would then need to re-enable it by pressing the "Continue" button.

While SU is stopped, you may visit the "History" , "Settings", or "Help" screen by selecting the appropriate tab. If you do that you will need to get back to the main screen by selecting the "Monitor" tab in order to "Continue".

History

History Tab The History window displays a list of all the sessions that you have saved when using SU. By default each session is automatically saved and appended to the end of this list. You may delete items from the list by selecting the "Edit" button and then pressing the minus.png button which is to the left of the date of the session. You will then need to confirm the deletion by clicking the "Delete" button.

You may get a full summary and see a graph of the session by selecting the right_arrow.png button which is to the right of the date of the session. This will take you to the "Summary" window.

Settings

settings_tab.PNG It is advisable that you familiarize yourself with the different settings of this program. The options are factory-preset to some regular defaults but you may want to practice with them in order to achieve better results.

All settings that you change are being remembered indefinitely by the iPhone/iPad.

Pick a Wake Up Sound

This screen enables the user to manage a small list of sound clips. The selected sound clip is what is required to be played upon "action" (if this option is turned on). To choose a suitable sound clip, simply highlight a line in the scrollable list. The "Edit" buttons allows you to record new sound clips or to delete clips you created before.

To delete a sound clip, select "Edit" and then click the minus.png button next to the clip you wish to delete. You will then need to confirm the deletion by clicking the "Delete" button.

To create new sound clips press the "Add new sound" button, SU will take you to the "New Sound" screen where you will be able to record new sound clips.
